The Custom Window Process
- Wednesday, 09 April 2014 21:08
After an initial meeting with the design committee, the artist creates the potential designs. Following this meeting, the design committee and artist meet to choose a design, refine the design, and select glass colors.
Once the final design is determined, the patterns are drawn and cut out, and the lead and glass are cut.
After all the pieces are cut, it is time for the painting process (optional). Painting is done to add ornate details, such as facial characteristics, to the stained glass panel, therefore it is not used in every design.
The stained glass panel is then soldered and assembled. Finally, the new stained glass panel is cemented. This is a process where cement is brushed into the voids of the lead, adding strength to the stained glass panel. In addition, this process seals the window and provides protection from the elements.
And voilá! The window is now ready for installation!

Spring Has Sprung…Almost!

Wow…what a winter! We don’t want to jinx it but we can’t help but feel like the worst is finally over for us Minnesotans.
The warmer temps this week have most of us wanting to throw on our shorts and SPF. Although we’re not there quite yet, it’s just around the corner. Before you know it the lakes will be thawed, the sun will be hot and patios will be open. Until then, we can only dream.
Spring and summer in Minnesota are the ideal seasons to renovate and remodel. Since these seasons are on the horizon, we thought we’d provide a little stained glass inspiration for those who are looking for a change. Click here
