How much does it cost to have a new window designed and built?
There are many variables as to what a window will cost. You will first need to consult with a stained glass studio before they can give you an estimate or quotation. After a consultation the studio can begin to work on drawings, which you would approve.
RESTORATION
What causes bulging?
The average life of a stained glass window is 70 to 100 years. As the lead and putty decay the structure of the window weakens which causes bulging. If the problem is not addressed the glass will crack or even fall out of the caming. With proper restoration the life of the stained glass window can be extend for up to another 100 years.
PROTECTIVE COVERING
Why do you need protective covering?
Protective covering is installed for several reasons:
- Protection from the outside elements
- Protection from vandalism
- Reduces heating and cooling costs
There are different types of protective covering, the most common are Lexan® and plate glass. Gaytee-Palmer Stained Glass recommends you consult with an expert from a stained glass studio who will help you decide which type of protective covering would be best for your window needs. It is important that protective covering be installed and vented properly so you do not cause damage to your windows.
